Ex- Doctor Faces Sexual Assault Charges Against Thirty-Eight Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a ex- physician stands accused of carrying out assaults involving 38 individuals who were patients.

Details of the Grave Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham faces allegations of dozens of acts of sexual assault – including some against children younger than 13 – between 2017 to 2021.

A deputy chief prosecutor commented, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a detailed and complex investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to establish that there is sufficient evidence to proceed to trial and that it is in the public interest.”

Scope of the Investigation

These allegations follow what investigators described as a “detailed inquiry” into reported sexual offences at two hospitals: the Royal Stoke university hospital and a facility in Dudley.

The defendant is due to appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

Prosecutors said the 45 sexual offences comprise:

  • Fifteen counts of assault.
  • Seventeen counts of penetrative assault.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of penetrative assault on a child under thirteen.
  • 1 count of attempted penetrative assault.
