🔗 Share this article Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions. A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the WSL side. Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently. It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed. Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga. For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals. She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals. Building Momentum at Old Trafford Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building momentum. Their recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals. Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business: The acquisition of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since arriving in 2023. Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.” Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
