Vince Zampella, renowned for co-creating the wildly popular franchise Call of Duty, has died in a vehicle crash in California he was 55 years old.

His passing was confirmed by Electronic Arts, the publisher that controls Respawn Entertainment, a game studio he co-founded.

The renowned game designer passed away following his car crashed and caught fire on a freeway in LA on Sunday, according to.

"This is a heartbreaking loss, and we stand with his family and friends, those closest to him, and the countless individuals inspired by his work," a spokesperson for Electronic Arts commented.
